The Northeast PA Logistics & Transportation Industry Partnership Holding Special Session for Local Guidance Counselors/Superintendents, PA CareerLink and Workforce Investment Board Staff

The Northeast PA Logistics & Transportation Industry Partnership is holding a special informational session for local guidance counselors, superintendents, PA CareerLink and Workforce Investment Board Staff on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 11:30AM to 1:30PM. The informational session will be held at The Woodlands Inn & Resort in Plains Township.

This educational session will discuss the high priority careers available in the Logistics & Transportation Industry. Attendees will be given information about the Career Pathways Model that will assist them in guiding students to a career in this growing industry. The Career Pathways Model outlines five major career paths in the industry and provides information about the occupations within each pathway and the skills, education and training needed to achieve success along those paths.

Georgia Egan, M.Ed., Workforce Development Consultant at Luzerne County Community College, will provide information about the Career Pathways Model and how schools can utilize the information to inform students of these opportunities and how they may partner with the Northeast PA Logistics & Transportation Industry Partnership to offer career related activities for their students to learn about the industry.

Also, Sara Hodon, Director of Workforce Development for the Schuylkill Workforce Partnership will be presenting details about the YES program, a pre-employment training program. The YES program is a 120-hour course, taught in the senior year of high school. The program is designed to help youth acquire the fundamental skills that employers regard as important to a well-trained work force. It addresses key concerns of the employers, while preparing applicants for quality employment opportunities and pathways to a secure future. The program is administered by the Northeast PA Manufacturers and Employers Council, a 501(C) (3) organization.

The Partnership's overall mission is to align economic and workforce development programs in order to meet the needs of businesses, the career goals of workers and to attract and retain quality employers in the Northeast Pennsylvania region.
